Taste of the Town a Success

by Jim Smith

OK, another great event is officially behind us! Taste of the Town was held yesterday in Layton and judging from the crowd it is deemed to have been a success. There is no way to do a head count, but we estimate that we exceeded 4000 people.

Events like this don’t happen without a lot of planning and effort by a Chamber Committee. This year’s committee included Phil Beck of Zions Bank, CJ Benson of South Davis Community Hospital, Randy Cook of iNET Solutions, Ralph Johnson of the Davis Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Michelle Howard of Layton City. Add to that group the Chamber staff of Angie, Kerry, Brenda, and Matt, plus a few on-the-spot volunteers like Carolyn Smith and Shelly Nettesheim of Apple Tree/Apple Village and that is the group that pulled it off.

I can’t ignore the help of Layton City’s wonderful team who took care of garbage and also provided us with EMT’s in case of an emergency. Great job guys!! And if you were there you saw that SportsPlex in Kaysville sponsored the band for us. The music by Red Shot Pony was GREAT and added an energetic background to all that was going on.

Our success has led to larger crowds each year. The lines were longer than I would have liked so next year we are planning on alleviating this by having even more great local restaurants represented. If you have a favorite restaurant that you want involved next year please let us know – and let them know they need to be part of the Davis Chamber!

Thanks. Jim

Act Now on Fluorescent Lighting Upgrades: Rocky Mountain Power Newsletter
  Rocky Mountain Power

July will be here before we know it. In July this year, changes to federal efficacy standards for fluorescent lamps and ballasts go into effect. If your business is considering fluorescent lighting upgrades, these changes may help you decide to act sooner rather than later.

What changes mean
The new federal standards will limit the availability of replacement parts for T12 lighting systems as manufacturers cease production of most T12 lamps and magnetic ballasts. Upgrading to T8 or T5 lighting systems generates significant energy and cost savings, provides better quality light, and prepares facilities for the phase-out of most T12 lamps in 2012. Rocky Mountain Power offers incentives for retrofitting T12 light fixtures to newer, more efficient premium T8 or T5 fluorescent technologies. These incentives help reduce project payback. Incentives for upgrades could change, and may not be available for standard T8 lighting systems once they become standard equipment.

Take advantage of current incentives
Rocky Mountain Power’s FinAnswer® Express program provides pre-calculated cash incentives when customers install high-efficiency lighting, HVAC and other equipment at their facilities. Before starting a lighting upgrade or other energy efficiency project, inquire online at or call toll free at 1-800-222-4335.
